As an Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery expert,
I have been practicing in Virginia since 1986. My background is a Chemistry B.S. at the College of William and Mary followed by M.D. at Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University. After 2 years of medical residency in Primary Care, I completed the Ophthalmology Residency program at MCV-VCU in 1985. Dr. Richard K. Dortzbach, a premier oculoplastic surgeon at University of Wisconsin, taught me the fine skills of oculoplastic surgery during fellowship. Many years in academic practice involved taking care of patients, teaching residents, pursuing clinical research, publishing articles and book chapters. Participation in domestic and foreign teaching trips allowed sharing of expert oculoplastic skills and knowledge with other surgeons. Thanks to “Dortz” and because of his leadership, I have had a wonderful academic and private practice.
Solo Private Practice:
After 17 years in academic practice, I founded a solo private practice, Oculoplastics and Orbital Consultants, PLC, and later changed the practice name, to Eyelid and Facial Aesthetics in order to better reflect the cosmetic orientation. Along with other surgeons, I am a founding member of the Monticello Community Surgery Center. Because MCSC is a free-standing, community-based, ambulatory surgery center, it provides stellar sub-specialty surgical care at affordable and transparent pricing.

The Formative Years:
I must credit my grandmother, Edna (aka “Nanny”), and God for blessing me with a tremendous gift in performing intricate work with steady hands. As a result of tagging with Nanny, I learned to sew, knit, crochet, tat, cross stitch… multi-tasking as we watched Lawrence Welk (in black and white) with our projects in our laps. She also – along with my parents Clair and Marian – instilled a solid work ethic. No dinner unless we kids participated in the picking and preparation of our veggies – and thanks to Gramps, my plate was mysteriously full whenever I emptied it.
Helping patients look their very best at any age…
is a blessing that I enjoy passing on because of the happy difference it can make in their lives. I am committed to the safety, comfort and satisfaction of my patients as I educate and guide them through options for rejuvenation, as well as the healing process after treatment. When you are looking for an eyelid expert – one with surgical skills, knowledge of laser technology, and aesthetic background – consider a visit for consultation.
