Selection of a surgeon for your eyelid surgery requires rapport and trust. It is helpful to know the background and skill of your surgeon. A very important function of the eyelids is to protect your eyes and vision, and your eyelid surgery should not jeopardize your eyes or vision. In the peri-ocular area, an experienced Oculoplastic surgeon will be focused on the safety of your eyes, and possess the knowledge and skills to provide the best functional and cosmetic results. Oculoplastic surgeons posses in-depth knowledge of ocular and orbital anatomy, microsurgical skills, and cosmetic surgical skills. The American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) has a listing of Oculoplastic Surgeons and their contact information. Visit ASOPRS.org to find an oculoplastic surgeon near you. This may require travel, however, it may be worth your extra time and effort.
When you visit you decide to make an appointment, you may know exactly what you would like for your treatment. On the other hand, you may want to discuss alternative options. Either way, I’ll take the time to review with you the surgical and non-surgical (“non-invasive”) treatments that are available to you, and those which will provide the best results for you. During your consultation, I will let you know eyelid surgery options and facial aesthetic options. If you prefer a procedure that is not within my expertise or scope of oculoplastics practice, then I will assist you by referring you to a surgeon who can do a great job for you. Your safety, comfort, and satisfaction are priorities!
Consider all of your options
Eyelid surgery may create a fantastic appearance around the eyes, but other features may detract. Wrinkles and sun damage age the appearance even if the eyelids appear youthful after surgery. Laser options, fillers and Botox® may enhance the appearance after eyelid surgery. Conversely, one may have a youthful skin, but appear tired and sleepy because the eyelids are drooping. The ideal plan might involve more than just eyelid surgery. A comprehensive discussion is necessary for optimal cosmetic evaluation. I will take the time and effort to provide you with information that not only gives you the complete picture, but allows you to be actively involved in the decision process for your care.
