Filler injection provides lift and contour for the aging face. There are many fillers available to those seeking a bit more volume to contour the facial features – cheeks, midface, nasolabial folds (“comma’s”), “marionette” lines, and lip lines and wrinkles. The injectable fillers may be thought of as injectable “implants”. The Juvéderm ® products consist of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally-occurring in the body, with varying degrees of cross-linking. It is a clear, colorless, gel implant. Juvéderm Voluma ® XC is a product that is FDA-approved for filling of the mid-face area and beneficial effects last for up to two years. The Voluma ® product enhances the zygomatic arch and maxillary prominence – adding projection – decreasing the prominence of the tear trough and providing subtle lifting of the midface. When used in the pyriform area Voluma ® lifts and fills the nasolabial area.
Other Juvéderm ® products are used to treat deep wrinkles in the subcutaneous space (Juvéderm Ultra Plus ® XC) and perioral wrinkles (Juvéderm Ultra® XC). There are minimal risks of inflammation, swelling and bruising. Over-filling is discouraged, but this product has an advantage of being reversible with injection of hyaluronidase. If you are new to having filler injections, these products are a good way to begin your experience.

What to expect after injection:
You may have some swelling and bruising at the injection sites. Mild redness, tenderness, lumpy feel, firmness, itching or mild irritation is possible. Betadine or other anti-septic solution applied to the treatment area prior to injection prevents infection. Infection is rare, but if there are concerns, please call. Likewise, allergies are rare, but if itching, redness, and irritation occur, please call. Follow-up is important – not only to check for the desired effect, but also to check for any unwanted effects.
